The team at the Aurora Project respects your privacy. We will ensure that we protect any personal information that we collect in carrying out our activities.

The Aurora Project is subject to obligations under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). In accordance with the National Privacy Principles under this Act, we will only collect personal information from you where this is necessary to carry out our activities.

We collect personal information for the following purposes:

1. Our Student Placement program
We collect information such as resumes, academic records, referee reports and we disclose this information to NTRBs and other government and non-government organisations, including the Human Rights and Equal Opportunities Commission and other organisations across Australia that participate in the student placement program. We collect and use this information in order to place students at NTRBs or other organisations for volunteer short term student work experience placements.
   
2. Learning and Development
We may collect personal information for the purpose of conducting training needs assessments of staff currently working at Native Title Representative Bodies across Australia. We de-identify information collected for the purpose of reporting on the results of our needs assessments. We do not disclose any personal information collected for this purpose. However we may disclose personal information to the Commonwealth Auditor General for the purpose of any audit conducted of our project.
   
3. Native Title Work
We collect personal information for the purpose of promoting career opportunities working for Native Title Representative Bodies. We also collect personal information for the purpose of promoting work for lawyers, barristers, anthropologists and others in the native title area. This information may be disclosed to NTRBs across Australia and to the Commonwealth Department of Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs for the purpose of recruitment and identifying and promoting native title work.

We will not otherwise disclose your personal information

We will not use or disclose any personal information for any other purpose unless we have the express consent of the person to whom the information relates, unless required to do so by law.

Confidential Information and Documents

We can determine that certain information is confidential, because of the nature of the information.

You can also request that we treat certain information or documents as confidential. In these cases we will clearly identify and mark the information or documents as confidential. This information will also be stored securely.

Once we have designated that information is confidential – protections are in place that will limit third party access to that information.

In particular, under our contract with the Australian Government, the Department of Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaCSIA) is not permitted access to confidential or personal information when inspecting our premises and/or records.

Only representatives of the Australian National Audit Office may have access to such confidential or personal information.
