Lisa Fox Indigenous Fellowship Program at New York University
Background
The Lisa Fox Indigenous Fellowship is funded through the generosity of Melbourne philanthropist, Lisa Fox, who is currently living in New York studying in NYU’s Paul McGhee program. The Fellowship has been inspired by Lisa’s friend and mentor, Professor Fred Myers, who is the Silver Professor of Anthropology at NYU, where he has taught since 1982.
Structure of the program
The Lisa Fox Indigenous Fellowship Program will enable one Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander student each year to undertake postgraduate study in a Masters (MA) or Doctoral (PhD) program at New York University (NYU), commencing in September 2012.
In this inaugural year, applicants will be considered in the areas of Arts, Business, Cinema Studies, Education, Film, Interactive Telecommunications, Musical Theater Writing, Nursing, Performance Studies and Science.
The Fellowship is tenable for up to four years. The value of the Fellowship will vary, depending on the Fellowship-holder's course of study. Only applicants who have been accepted by a faculty at NYU can be awarded the Lisa Fox Indigenous Fellowship.
Where can I study at NYU?
Below is some background information on each of the NYU faculties offering a fellowship opportunity as well as the relevant links to their website.
NYU Graduate School of Arts and Science
With approximately 900 faculty and 11,000 students, NYU’s Faculty of Arts and Science is the largest academic unit at New York University. Arts and Science has a rich and diverse academic organization. It is home to the oldest undergraduate (founded in 1832) and graduate school (founded in 1886) at NYU: the College of Arts and Science (CAS), and the Graduate School of Arts and Science (GSAS).
GSAS offers 54 programs granting advanced degrees, including doctorates, master's, and certificates. We comprise 200 fields of study covering a wide range of disciplines and cross-disciplinary work. As the graduate school that granted the second earned doctorate in the United States, we value tradition, but equally prize innovation and research, the heart of any graduate program.
Though we are proud of our past, graduate education is about the future: the future of our ideas about the human and natural worlds and the next generation of scholars, thinkers, and leaders.
Applicants to the Lisa Fox Indigenous Fellowship Program to the NYU Faculty of Arts and Science must be accepted into a Masters or Doctoral program in any of the disciplines listed on the Graduate School’s website.
